How do I start a return?

If your item qualifies under GameStop’s return policy, you can start your return online in just a few minutes. Most returns don’t require contacting GameStop. 

 Once your return is submitted, no further action is needed until we contact you.

 Before You Start 

Make sure: 

  • Your item is within the return window 
  • Your order does not include digital content 
  • Your order was not Same Day Delivery or Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPS) 

Orders that include any digital items, Same Day Delivery, or BOPS can’t be processed through the returns portal

Return Fees (Important) 

  • Online returns include a $8.99–$14.99 return shipping fee 
  • In-store returns do not include this fee  

If avoiding a return fee is important, returning in store may be the better option.

In-Store Purchases 

  • Items purchased in store must be returned to any GameStop store 
  • Bring your receipt 
  • If you lost your receipt, the store may still be able to locate your purchase  

 You may also return online purchases in store (with the packing slip) 
as long as the total is under $500

Start an Online Return 

Step 1: Go to the Returns Portal 

Enter: 

  • Order number 
  • Email address 
    (Be sure there are no extra spaces)

Step 2: Select Your Item 

  • Choose the item you want to return 
  • Select Refund or Replacement 
  • Select a reason for the return

Step 3: Choose a Return Method 

  • Ship via FedEx 
    – Print the return label and drop off at FedEx 
  • Return to Store 
    – Prints a packing slip only 
    – Does not guarantee the store can ship the item for you

Step 4: Review & Submit 

Once submitted: 

  • Print your label or receipt 
  • Drop off at FedEx or bring item to the store 
  • Wait for confirmation email

⚠️ Common Portal Errors (and What They Mean) 

“We don’t recognize that order number or zip code” usually means: 

  • Order info was entered incorrectly 
  • The order is Same Day Delivery or BOPIS 
  • The order includes digital content 

 In these cases, the return must be handled in store

What Happens Next? 

  • Once we receive the item, the warehouse verifies it 
  • Refund or replacement processing begins 
  • Updates are sent by email 

Submitting the return means you’re all set—no follow-up is needed.

When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop 

You usually don’t need support help if: 

  • You successfully submitted your return 
  • You’re waiting for the item to arrive at the warehouse 
  • The portal doesn’t allow Same Day Delivery, BOPIS, or digital orders 
  • You see a return shipping fee on an online return 

These are expected behaviors.

⏱️ When Should I Contact GameStop? 

Contact GameStop only if: 

  • You’re within the return window but cannot access the portal 
  • You received an error for a standard shipped order with no digital items 
  • Your return was received but hasn’t updated after a reasonable time
