What Is the Return Window for New vs. Used Items?

Modified on Thu, 23 Apr at 1:13 PM

Return and exchange windows depend on whether your item was purchased as New or PreOwned.

Below is a clear breakdown to help you understand your options before starting a return.

New Items

 Unopened New Items

Unopened new items may be refunded or replaced within 15 days of purchase
(or 15 days from delivery for online orders).

⚠️ Exceptions to the 15Day Window

Some new items have shorter return periods:

  • Special / Collector’s Editions (Software & Hardware): 7day refund or exchange
  • Steam Deck: 14day refund or exchange
  • PCs, PC Components, Laptops, Monitors: 7day refund only
  • PRO Membership: 2day refund

If your item falls into one of these categories, the shorter window applies automatically.

PreOwned Items

All preowned items follow these rules:

  • Refund: Within 7 days
  • Replacement: Within 15 days

After 7 days, refunds are no longer available—but replacements may still be possible up to day 15.

When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop

You generally don’t need support assistance if:

  • Your item is outside its return window
  • Your item qualifies for replacement only, not refund
  • Your refund request was denied due to policy limits
  • Your item falls under one of the listed exceptions

These policies are applied automatically and can’t be overridden.

⏱️ When Should I Contact GameStop?

Contact GameStop only if:

  • You believe your item was incorrectly categorized (New vs. PreOwned)
  • You’re within the return window but unable to start a return
  • You need clarification on which exception applies to your item
