GameStop offers optional Product Replacement Plans (PRP) and Game Play Guarantees (GPG) on most eligible items.
These plans provide a one-time replacement for covered failures during your selected coverage period.
✅ These plans are warranty-like protections designed for normal wear and tear, not accidental damage or loss.
✅ What You Get With PRP & GPG
- One-time replacement during the coverage period
- Coverage length of one or two years, depending on what you purchased
- Replacement available in store (same day when possible) or by sending the item back
- Coverage starts:
- In store: Day of purchase
- Online orders: Date of delivery
⚠️ Important Replacement Details (Very Common Questions)
- Replacements are always Pre-Owned or Refurbished
- If the exact item is unavailable, you’ll receive a like or equivalent pre-owned or refurbished item
- New items are not provided as replacements under PRP or GPG
This replacement method applies in every case and can’t be changed by support or stores.
What’s the Difference Between PRP and GPG?
Product Replacement Plan (PRP)
- Covers hardware
- Provides repair or one-time replacement at GameStop’s discretion
- Applies to failures not covered by insurance or another warranty
Game Play Guarantee (GPG)
- Covers software
- Provides a one-time replacement
- Applies to failures not covered by insurance or another warranty
✅ What’s Covered?
- Mechanical or operational failure
- Defects in materials or workmanship
- Failures caused by normal wear and tear
❌ What’s Not Covered?
PRP and GPG do not cover:
- Bonus content (physical or digital)
- Products used outside the U.S. or its territories
- Damage from misuse, abuse, theft, fire, flooding, weather, vandalism, or power events
- Cosmetic damage (scratches, dents, peeling)
- Consumables (batteries, supplies)
- Non-compatible software or cartridges
- Preventative maintenance
- Commercial or rental use
- Pre-existing conditions
- Failures covered by insurance or another warranty
❌ What These Plans Don’t Do
To set expectations clearly:
- They do not provide multiple replacements
- They do not guarantee a brand-new item
- They do not cover lost, stolen, or destroyed items
- They do not cover accidental damage
Cancelling Your Plan
If you cancel within 30 days and no claims were made, you’ll receive a full refund for the plan price
Full legal terms are available in the PRP Terms of Condition
When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop
You usually don’t need support assistance if:
- You received a pre-owned or refurbished replacement
- The exact item wasn’t available and a comparable item was offered
- Your issue falls under the listed exclusions
- You’re outside the coverage period
- Bonus or digital content was not replaced
These outcomes follow plan rules and can’t be overridden.
⏱️ When Should I Contact GameStop?
Contact GameStop only if:
- You’re within coverage but unable to process a replacement in store or online
- Your plan isn’t showing on your purchase
- You want to cancel an unused plan within the 30‑day window
- You believe your item was incorrectly classified (hardware vs. software)
