If your order was cancelled, you should have received an email or notification explaining why.
Below are the most common reasons, what they mean, and what—if anything—you need to do.
Good news: Most cancellations don’t require contacting GameStop and don’t result in a charge.
Common Reasons Orders Are Cancelled
Payment Issues
If there was a problem with your payment, we'll email you and give you 24 hours to update your payment information.
If the issue isn’t resolved within that time, the order is cancelled automatically.
✅ What you can do:
If the item is still available, place a new order—using a different payment method is recommended.
Partner Vendor Cancellations
Some items ship directly from partner vendors.
If a vendor encounters a defect or fulfillment issue, they may cancel the order and notify you by email.
✅ What you can do:
Check availability and reorder the item if it’s still listed.
Restricted Items
Certain high-demand items are limited to one per household.
If multiple orders are detected, extra units are automatically cancelled to ensure fair access.
✅ What you can do:
Keep the valid order—no action is needed for the cancelled item.
Inventory Issues
In rare cases, an item may no longer be available by the time we process the order.
If we can’t fulfill it, the order is cancelled.
✅ What you can do:
If the item becomes available again, you’re welcome to place a new order.
Was I Charged?
Credit Card / Debit Card / PayPal
We don’t charge until an order ships.
What you may see is a temporary authorization, which will fall off on its own.
✅ No action needed
Gift Card
If you paid with a gift card, the funds should still be available on the card.
✅ Lost the card?
Contact GameStop with the original gift card number to request a replacement.
In-Store Order
If a store associate placed the order for you, return to the store and they can assist with your refund.
Can I Reorder My Item?
Yes—if the item is still available, you can place a new order at any time.
⚠️ Please note:
- Previous sales or promotions can’t be honored
- If your order was cancelled due to payment, we recommend using a different payment method
? When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop
You typically don’t need to contact us if:
- Your cancellation email explains the reason
- Your payment was only authorized and not charged
- Your gift card balance is still available
- You’re able to reorder the item successfully
⏱️ When Should I Contact GameStop?
- You were charged for a cancelled order
- Your gift card balance did not return
- You can’t place a new order and need help verifying payment or availability
- You no longer have your gift card number and need a replacement
In most cases, cancellations resolve automatically and no action is needed.
