Pre-orders let you reserve upcoming items before release.
How they work depends on whether you pre-order online or in store.
How Do I See My Pre-Orders?
- Online or App pre-orders:
View them anytime in your Account → Order History, where you’ll see:- Pre-ordered items
- Expected release dates
- In-store pre-orders:
Contact the same GameStop store where you placed the reservation for details.
When Am I Charged for a Pre-Order?
✅ Online Pre-Orders
- At checkout, you may see a temporary authorization
- This is not a charge
- ✅ You are charged about 1 week before the release date
- This allows time to fix payment issues before release
✅ In-Store Pre-Orders
- You place a deposit, not the full charge:
- $5 minimum for most games and collectibles
- $50 minimum for larger items (systems, collector’s editions)
- You can:
- Pay the minimum
- Add more funds anytime before release
- Pay the item off early or at pickup
The remaining balance is due when you pick up the item after release.
Can I Split Payments on a Pre-Order?
- Online pre-orders:
- ❌ Payments cannot be split
- ✅ Only PayPal Pay in 4 is supported
- In-store pre-orders:
- ✅ You can add money over time
- ✅ Multiple payment types are allowed
- ✅ Trade-in credit can be applied
Can I Use Coupons on Pre-Orders?
❌ Coupons cannot be used on any pre-orders, online or in store.
This includes all coupon and reward types.
⏱️ What If I Can’t Pick Up My In-Store Pre-Order on Release Day?
That’s okay—but timing matters.
- You have 48 hours after release to pick up your item
- After 48 hours:
- Your deposit stays on your account
- The physical copy may be sold to other customers
Can I Get My Money Back for an In-Store Pre-Orders?
Yes—timing determines how it’s refunded:
- Any time up to 30 days after release:
- Refund to original payment method or cash
- After 30 days:
- Refund as store credit only
Example:
- You put $15 down
- ✅ Within 30 days → $15 cash/original payment
- ✅ After 30 days → $15 store credit
I Didn’t Get My Pre-Order Bonus — Why?
Pre-order bonuses are while supplies last.
If they run out:
- The item purchase is still valid
- Bonus items aren’t guaranteed and can’t be replaced
When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop
You usually don’t need support if:
- You see a pending authorization for an online pre-order
- You haven’t been charged yet
- You missed the 48‑hour in-store pickup window
- A coupon wouldn’t apply
- A bonus item wasn’t available
These are expected pre-order behaviors.
⏱️ When Should I Contact GameStop?
Contact GameStop only if:
- You can’t locate a pre-order in your account
- You were charged incorrectly
- You need help cancelling a guest (non-account) pre-order
- You need refund clarification for an in-store deposit
