Nintendo download codes can be redeemed on:
- A Nintendo Switch console, or
- Nintendo.com using a web browser
Once redeemed, the game or content is added directly to your Nintendo Account.
✅ Nintendo codes must be redeemed through Nintendo, not GameStop.
✅ Before You Start (Important)
- Nintendo download codes are 16 characters
- Certain characters are never used, including:
- O
- I
- Z
- Hyphens (–)
These characters won’t appear on the on-screen keyboard and shouldn’t be entered.
Redeem a Code on Nintendo Switch (Console)
Applies to:
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
Steps:
- Select Nintendo eShop eShop from the HOME Menu
- Choose the Nintendo Account to use
- Select Enter Code (left side of the screen)
- Enter the 16‑character download code
- Select OK
✅ The game will begin downloading automatically.
You’ll see the game icon on your HOME Menu with a progress bar until download completes.
Redeem a Code Online (Nintendo.com)
- Go to: https://ec.nintendo.com/redeem/#/
- Select Sign in
- Sign in with your Nintendo Account email and password
- If already signed in, confirm the correct account is shown
- Enter the 16‑character download code and select Next
- Re-enter Your Nintendo Account password when prompted
- Select Redeem to finish
✅ A confirmation email will be sent to the email address linked to your Nintendo Account once completed.
When You Don’t Need to Contact GameStop
You usually don’t need GameStop support if:
- You redeemed the code successfully in Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com
- The game is downloading or already in your library
- You received a confirmation email from Nintendo
- The code must be entered on Nintendo’s platform (this is expected)
GameStop cannot redeem or troubleshoot Nintendo codes after purchase.
⏱️ When Should I Contact Support?
Contact Nintendo Support, not GameStop, if:
- The code was entered correctly but shows an error
- You’re unsure whether a code was already redeemed
- The content doesn’t appear after successful redemption
Nintendo controls all redemption, accounts, and downloads.
